Stella Khumalo

Stella Khumalo, renowned Singer, backing vocalist and vocal arranger has been in the music business from the early 80’s and has worked on recordings and performances as a group named “JAWS”. Continuing her musical journey, working with the likes of Miriam Makeba, Hugh Masekela and Yvonne Chaka Chaka respectively, her voice has graced movie soundtracks from Ushaka, Power of One and The Lion King, recording internationally with Simply Red and Cindy Lauper.

From the opening celebration for the Greece Olympics, SABC2’s tribute to Busi Mhlongo, she has collaborated between Belgium and South Africa on Southernwind and featured as singer and voice coach on "Sioen".

Participating in the 2010 Fifa World Cup kick-off celebration concert, Stella has done numerous European tours on Tributes to Mirriam Makeba with Angelique Kidjo, Vusi Mahlasela and Baba Mal. Her performances also include New York City's Carnegie Hall in the USA.

Co-ordinating voices and recorded music arranged by Caiphus Semenya and Alex Heffes for the film Long Walk To Freedom directed by Anant Singh, she has received an honorary award for her contribution in music from South African “Arts and Culture” in conjunction with “Tribute Music Awards”.


"Personally as a musician who travels the world, sharing cultural values through music, I feel for refugees in the sense that they find themselves in places where they are not sure how they will be received but have to adhere to whatever situation they face.

Imagining myself in that kind of situation always get me scared, so this project for me is to say we're all in this together. A luta continua!"
